In August 2009, 18-year-old Caster Semenya from South Africa won the gold medal in the 800 meters race at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics in Berlin with a time of 1:55.45 setting the world record. The International Association of Athletics Federations made Semenya undergo gender testing to verify that she was indeed female, and did not have an “unfair advantage” in the competition because she “appeared” to have masculine build and characteristics.
The results of Semenya’s gender verification tests are in now, and will remain confidential. Semenya will retain her gold medal, title and prize money for her August victory. This is great because it’s a shame to think that anyone would have to go through something so inhumane. Who cares whether Semenya is male, female or both? What difference does gender make? Let’s hope the controversy will subside and Semenya will continue to compete in future athletic competitions.

For the past couple of months we have been addicted to homemade french fries. Almost every night when we are sitting in front of the boob tube watching our favorite shows we start craving a snack. So we make some homemade french fries. We peel some Yukon gold potatoes, slice them to the size we want and put them in a pot of oil to cook. We wait until they are golden brown. Then we pull them out, put a little bit of salt on them and dig in. We just cannot get enough. We are hooked on the junk. Dipping them in ketchup is the best. Just talking about french fries in this blog makes me want some fries and we already ate some tonight. No Yukon gold potato is safe! I wonder if there is a twelve step program for this type of addiction.

Shay ordered me to write a blog for the website, so here I am. I have to do what she says, you know? And, I need to contribute some, don’t I? Especially since she does everything else regarding the website, podcast, etc. I’m listening to my gospel music in the background as I write. I’m listening to a song called “God of the Ages.” It’s sung by Charles Billingsley, and was written by a Liberty University student. Look it up on youtube.com. It’s really good! Shay’s not so into the churchy music like I am, but I still love her. I really do. Sometimes on the podcast it might seem like we don’t love each other, but we really do. I guess we’ve been together so long that we bicker a lot. That happens after you’ve been with a person for almost seven years. Well, that’s it for now. I’ve got more gospel music to enjoy. Peace lezzies. Welcome to the first Flaming Lezzies blog!
